Kantata 50 Black Currant was identified as a superior variety at the USDA Germplasm Repository in Corvallis, Oregon. It yields plentiful, large, sweet, low acid berries with a unique, pleasing flavor. It's ideal for beginner cultivators and the freshly-picked berries are delightful.

Easily maintained at 5' tall with 3'-4' spacing. Bushes are 1 year old. Partially self fertile; produces highest yields with another variety of R. nigrum for cross-pollination. Cold hardy to USDA zone 3 (-40F).
